Richmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has launched Tax Certificates Online, a new property information service that increases the efficiency of legally closing real estate transactions in BC.
The legal, business, and government professionals of British Columbia use BC OnLine to electronically retrieve or register authoritative information related to land titles, property assessments, BC company registrations, and personal property liens. MDA operates BC OnLine in partnership with the Government of British Columbia.
Tax Certificates Online expedites the tax certificate ordering process. Tax certificates are documents issued by municipal governments stating property tax and utility payment balances of real estate properties. More than 100,000 tax certificates are purchased annually and used by conveyancing lawyers and notaries to calculate the precise sums of money to be transferred between the various parties on closing of a property transaction. The service will be available through BC OnLine (www.bconline.gov.bc.ca).
Until now conveyance professionals needed to manage payment accounts and obtain certificates though a slow, paper-based process with each municipality. Tax Certificates Online links municipalities so that tax certificates can be paid for and delivered electronically within seconds through BC OnLine. For launch, participating municipalities include Victoria, Saanich, Sidney, Nanaimo and Port Moody with more joining immediately. The service was developed in part through a business alliance with the Tempest Development Group Inc., a provider of property management software for municipalities.
"This service meets an urgent need of the legal sector" said Allan Crawshaw, MDA's General Manager responsible for BC OnLine, "and further enhances our suite of electronic services for the delivery of property related information".
