$170 Million RapidEye Agricultural Information Mission Contract Signed

Richmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that the Company has signed a contract valued at approximately $170 million CDN to supply a complete small satellite mission to RapidEye AG of Germany. The RapidEye mission includes a constellation of five Earth Observation satellites and the related ground infrastructure.

RapidEye is planning to operate the mission to deliver agricultural land information products and services such as crop monitoring and mapping, yield prediction, and natural disaster assessment.

Insurance and food companies, farmers, government and other agencies and institutions throughout the world will regularly receive up-to-date products and services of the highest quality. In addition RapidEye will offer unique and highly competitive products to cartography customers. The mission will permit daily information updates of RapidEye's target market areas.

MDA will be the prime contractor on the RapidEye project, and will also participate in marketing and product development efforts.

The Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) is acting as the contracting agency between MDA and RapidEye AG. CCC, a Government of Canada Crown corporation, facilitates over $1 billion in exports each year.
