April 21 Three MDA High Resolution Information Ground Stations Go Live in First Quarter
MDA announced today that three of its ground stations for ORBIMAGE's OrbView-3 high resolution satellite went live in the first quarter of 2004. The ground stations are for NTT DATA of Japan, ORBIMAGE Inc., the owner and operator of the OrbView-3 satellite, and an undisclosed customer. The latest ORBIMAGE ground station provided by MDA to an undisclosed customer went live in March 2004. This ground station will be used primarily to provide information for classified mapping and reconnaissance applications. The ORBIMAGE ground station for NTT DATA went live in January 2004. NTT DATA plans to provide information from its ORBIMAGE ground station to its government and commercial customers. Mapping, crop monitoring, urban and regional planning, environmental preservation and monitoring, land uses and other remote sensing applications are all uses for information from the OrbView-3 high resolution satellite. The OrbView-3 headquarters ground station at ORBIMAGE became operational in January 2004. ORBIMAGE plans to use its headquarters ground station to provide global information to customers around the world. ORBIMAGE's OrbView-3 satellite is among the world's first commercial satellites to provide high-resolution imagery from space. OrbView-3 produces one-meter resolution panchromatic (black and white) and four-meter resolution multispectral (colour and infrared) imagery. One-meter imagery enables the viewing of houses, automobiles and aircraft, and makes it possible to create highly precise digital maps and three-dimensional fly-through scenes. Four-meter multispectral imagery provides color and infrared information to further characterize cities, rural areas and undeveloped land from space.
