Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

The iconic Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands west of continental Ecuador, distributed on either side of the Equator in the Pacific Ocean. The largest of the islands, Isla Isabela is flanked by the smaller Isla Fernandina and Isla Santiago. The volcanic calderas are clearly visible in this image derived from a RADARSAT-2 Wide Fine scene. Wide Fine offers a scene size of 150 km x 150 km at 8 m resolution. Getting cloud free images of the Galápagos Islands can be challenging with optical imagery, but high quality images are reliably acquired with SAR data from RADARSAT-2.
