April 19 MDA to provide communication antenna subsystems
MDA today announced that it has signed a contract for approximately CA$5 million with Airbus Defence and Space to provide four communication antenna subsystems and control electronics. MDA's proven and patented control electronics allows antenna movement in very fine increments which increases the flexibility and performance of the satellite.
April 12 SSL builds executive team for US Government Systems
SSL today announced that it is increasing its commitment to support U.S. government missions with key executives that bring a depth of experience to the company. Under the direction of Richard White who was promoted to President of SSL Government Systems, Robert Zitz has joined the company as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for SSL Government Systems. April 12 SSL completes agreement to partner with DARPA on satellite servicing
Space Systems Loral (SSL) today announced that it has signed and executed an agreement with the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop advanced capabilities for servicing and maintaining spacecraft in geostationary orbit. Details of the partnership were previously released on February 9, 2017.
March 30 MDA to provide communication subsystems to be used on the International Space Station
MDA today announced that it has received an Authorization To Proceed from The Boeing Company for the provision of three Ku-Band communication subsystems that will replace aging Ku-Band communication subsystems. The new subsystems will interface with the existing International Space Station (ISS) Space-to-Ground Antenna, previously provided by MDA. The contract includes an option for an additional subsystem, which if exercised, brings the full contract to approximately CA$30 million.
March 16 SSL-built, highly flexible satellite for EchoStar begins post-launch maneuvers according to plan
SSL today announced that the EchoStar XXIII satellite, designed and built for EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS), was launched last night from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and is successfully performing post-launch maneuvers according to plan. The satellite deployed its solar arrays on schedule following its launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 and will begin to fire its main thruster tomorrow night to propel itself toward its final circular orbit in the geostationary arc. SSL is a subsidiary of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, Ltd. (TSX:MDA), a global communications and information company.
March 8 MDA to provide RADARSAT-2 information for maritime surveillance
MDA today announced that it has signed three contracts with a total approximate value of CA$2.5 million with Satellite Applications Catapult Ltd. MDA will use imaging capabilities from the RADARSAT-2 satellite to provide information on maritime surveillance and the detection of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing vessels. This information is integrated into other data and shared with government and non-government agencies to monitor fishing activities in remote regions.
February 24 MDA to Acquire DigitalGlobe, Creating Industry Leader in End-to-End Space Systems, Earth Imagery and Geospatial Solutions
MDA and DigitalGlobe, Inc. today announced they have entered into a definitive merger agreement, pursuant to which MDA will acquire DigitalGlobe for US$35.00 per share in a combination of cash and stock. The transaction values DigitalGlobe at an equity value of approximately C$3.1 billion (US$2.4 billion), and an enterprise value of C$4.7 billion (US$3.6 billion), including assumption of DigitalGlobe's C$1.6 billion (US$1.2 billion) in net debt. The transaction has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies, and is expected to close in the second half of 2017.

MDA today announced that it has received an Authorization to Proceed from Airbus Defence and Space for the provision of multiple communication antenna subsystems to be integrated into the EUTELSAT-5WB communication satellite. The full contract is expected to be valued in excess of CA$3 million.

February 9 SSL selected to partner with DARPA to develop satellite servicing business
SSL today announced it has been selected by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop the capability to service and maintain spacecraft and other infrastructure in the geostationary arc. DARPA's Robotic Servicing of Geosynchronous Satellites (RSGS) program, is expected to be the foundation of a new business for SSL that will serve both commercial and government operators with repair, upgrade, relocation, and refueling of on-orbit assets.

January 31 MDA signs land administration modernization agreement

January 18 MDA provides operational support to Asteroid Mission
MDA today announced that it has received a contract for CA$3.7 million from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) for NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission. MDA will provide operations engineering support for the CSA's contribution to the mission, the OSIRIS-REx Laser Altimeter (OLA) instrument, which will provide ranging and topographic data of the asteroid Bennu. It will allow scientists to create a high resolution 3D model of its surface. Launched in September 2016, OSIRIS-REx is planned to reach Bennu in late 2018.

MDA today announced that Daniel Friedmann, its former president and chief executive officer, has resigned from its Board of Directors effective today. Mr. Friedmann served as chief executive officer of MDA between 1995 and May 2016.
January 5 MDA's U.S. business unit, SSL, to provide spacecraft for NASA asteroid exploration mission
MDA today announced that its U.S. business unit, SSL, was selected to provide a spacecraft platform for a NASA Discovery Mission to explore the metallic asteroid 16 Psyche. SSL will work for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to support Principal Investigator Dr. Lindy Elkins-Tanton, director of Arizona State Universitys (ASU) School of Earth and Space Exploration, in a mission to research the 210 km diameter asteroid, which is believed to be the only place in the solar system where a metal planetary core can be studied.
