MDA today announced that its subsidiary, Space Systems Loral (SSL) has signed a contract to provide JUPITER™ 3 a transformational Ultra High Density Satellite (UHDS) to Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) to be designated EchoStar XXIV. The technologies included in this satellite will provide more concentrated capacity over high-use areas than any other satellite and will power future generations of Hughes consumer, enterprise and aeronautical services across the Americas.

MDA will lead a team of five Canadian organizations with expertise in hyperspectral imaging and data analysis. MDA today announced that it has received an Authorization to Proceed on a multi-million dollar contract from Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC). MDA will provide a communications subsystem for on-board communication signal processing capabilities for the Dream ChaserĀ® Cargo System, a cargo transportation spacecraft being developed by SNC under the NASA Commercial Resupply Services (CRS2) program. The spacecraft is scheduled for at least six cargo delivery missions to and from the International Space Station between 2020 and 2024.

MDA today announced that it has signed a contract amendment with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) for its Geospatial Terminal Operations (GTO) requirement. MDA will provide an additional year of software systems and services to automate the production of NGA's aeronautical charting products associated with flight operations at airports and the airspace immediately around them. This amendment is a follow-on to the contract announced in July 2014 and includes an option of four years, with a potential total value of US$4 million over the five years.

MDA and DigitalGlobe, Inc. today announced they have entered into a definitive merger agreement, pursuant to which MDA will acquire DigitalGlobe for US$35.00 per share in a combination of cash and stock. The transaction values DigitalGlobe at an equity value of approximately C$3.1 billion (US$2.4 billion), and an enterprise value of C$4.7 billion (US$3.6 billion), including assumption of DigitalGlobe's C$1.6 billion (US$1.2 billion) in net debt. January 18 MDA provides operational support to Asteroid Mission
MDA today announced that it has received a contract for CA$3.7 million from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) for NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission. MDA will provide operations engineering support for the CSA's contribution to the mission, the OSIRIS-REx Laser Altimeter (OLA) instrument, which will provide ranging and topographic data of the asteroid Bennu. It will allow scientists to create a high resolution 3D model of its surface. Launched in September 2016, OSIRIS-REx is planned to reach Bennu in late 2018.

MDA today announced that its U.S. business unit, SSL, was selected to provide a spacecraft platform for a NASA Discovery Mission to explore the metallic asteroid 16 Psyche. SSL will work for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to support Principal Investigator Dr. Lindy Elkins-Tanton, director of Arizona State Universitys (ASU) School of Earth and Space Exploration, in a mission to research the 210 km diameter asteroid, which is believed to be the only place in the solar system where a metal planetary core can be studied.
